Reiki and the Sunday Scaries

In my family, we have a name for that uneasy feeling that creeps in on Sunday evenings—the one that reminds you Monday is just around the corner and there’s no stopping it. We call it the Sunday Scaries.

It’s not that we’re afraid of Monday itself. Monday is just Monday. But it marks the beginning of the workweek, and sometimes, especially after a great weekend or a refreshing vacation, the transition back to routine can feel a little jarring.

That’s exactly where I found myself tonight.

Valerie and I just returned from a wonderful week away—a mix of vacation and a work conference that left us inspired, recharged, and full of new ideas. We shopped, saw a fantastic show, and enjoyed the freedom of doing whatever we wanted. But now, as we settle back into “normal” life, the Sunday Scaries have made their appearance.

I’m feeling a strange mix of energy and inertia. I want to do everything and nothing all at once. I could easily fall asleep to a movie, but I also feel the pull to do something more intentional with this moment.

That’s where Reiki comes in.

Instead of letting the Sunday Scaries take over, I chose to meet them with mindfulness and energy work. I found a quiet space in my home, set the intention to bring peace into my mind and body, and began to visualize a calm, structured Monday. I focused on what it feels like to move through a successful workweek with clarity and purpose.

As thoughts and distractions crept in, I gently let them go and returned to my intention. Using the tools I’ve learned through Usui/Holy Fire® Reiki and Karuna Reiki®, I activated the symbols that aligned with my goals. I allowed the Reiki energy to flow through me, clearing away tension and grounding me in the present.

Gratitude began to fill the space where anxiety had been. As I closed the meditation, I spoke my thanks aloud—to Source, to the energy, and to the moment of transformation.

The Sunday Scaries didn’t disappear—they evolved. They became a sense of possibility, even a spark of excitement for the opportunities the new week might bring.

Reiki is one of the tools I turn to when I need to reset, refocus, and reconnect. It helps me prepare not just for Monday, but for whatever life has in store.
